Hi there,
I’m new to DevChix and wanted to introduce myself. I work at IBM in the CTO Office (Information Management Group) working on lots of different things – open source community building, researching emerging technologies and languages, and looking at stuff generally cool around open source. It’s a pretty fun job, and I love that I get to geek out on a daily basis
I’m not a coder, but I do lots of technical research and work with developers on a daily basis.
Right now I’m looking at different projects and products using/integrating Ruby/Rails into their development strategy and how different companies are using these technologies to do things better than they did in the past. I’m relatively new to the Ruby/Rails community (coming from the 5 years on the Java side of things) and always looking for new blogs or resources to follow.
I’m really excited to be a part of this group, and can’t wait to start virtually meeting some of you.
Best,
Lauren

Victoria
Hey, I’m Victoria Wang from Naperville, IL. In the last couple years I’ve been doing web development, mostly front-end, at a non-profit Christian organization nearby where I’ve also been learning Ruby/Rails. I’m in my second year at college studing computer science, currently learning Java. Still figuring out my life, so who knows what will happen. I do know that I’m REALLY excited to have found myself in this bunch of female developers and I hope to learn a lot from you guys!
My other interests include digital illustration, comics/manga, playing viola, jogging, nature, vegetarianism. Two projects I hope to start on as soon as I have more time are a web comic and a rails app idea I have. I’ll be asking for feedback on the latter at some point ^__^.

Carmelyne Thompson
Hi there! I’m Carmelyne Thompson and currently residing in South Elgin, IL which is a 40 min drive west of Chicago, IL. I am glad to be a part of devchix. I’m a Sr. Web Developer at Prairie Web Internet Marketing doing Coldfusion, PHP, ASP and alot of Front-End/UI development. I’m usually playing with Photoshop and Illustrator when I’m not hacking my way into someone else’s code. Rails is my favorite right now, and I’m also acquainting myself with Ruby.

C’mon, you know someone had to call their post HW.
Howdy from the west coast. I’m Sarah, and I hang out in San Francisco and related environs.
My expertise these days is in server-side Java in small- to medium-sized systems. I’ve worked on a lot of different things, though — development tools for MS Office, 3D graphics for virtual reality, automation for eBay sellers, dev tools for software companies in the developing world, and lots of assorted web apps and sites.
Right now I’m a consultant for Colorful Expressions, and my current project is a shopping cart, which has some interesting and surprisingly complex problems for something so mundane. And it’s in Rails, which is to Java what my neighborhood hardware store is to Home Depot.
(I mean that as a compliment.)
As for the rest of my personality, I dance, play Puzzle Pirates, study Japanese, do fabric-related crafty things, have a toddler, am superwoman, etc. Ha ha. Actually, I spend most of my free time poinging around with my daughter, largely at the expense of laundry and housecleaning and all the above-referenced fascinating things I used to do.
Though I do still play Puzzle Pirates. Yarrr!

Ask me what my favorite language is and I’ll tell you a different one every week. I may answer Ruby every other week, but PHP is cool and I think Perl is neat. I’ve been programming since I was 13 and well my family thinks I’m hopeless. I’m currently doing PHP for Info.com and doing PHP/XML type of things. Previously I did perl and ruby for a morgage type company.
When I am not hacking code, I’m doing crafty things like knitting, crochet and stitching. I try and get myself to the gym on a regular basis.
I often organize groups of programmers in chicago for lunch or dinner, just for fun. This usually involves saying “Hey guys… lets meet this place at this time” .. and so far, I’ve only been stood up once! I’m fairly regular at Perl, PHP, Ruby meetings and I’ve been know to crash a few Python meetings.

Hi, I’m Sarah. I live in Chicago and develop web apps for medical education clients. I telecommute for a hospital in NYC. For the past few years I’ve taken my job with me — from Brooklyn to Austin, Denver and now Chicago, where I bought a home last halloween and plan to stay for a good long time. I primarily work in PHP girl right now — I got Zend certified last summer and met Nola and Jen at the PHP users group here in town. I’ve been learning Ruby on Rails, along with the rest of the world and their dog, and am working on a project for fun that uses that and the Yahoo! UI library, (definitely worth checking out). When my project gets further along I’m thinking of posting it here for feedback, or at least to a limited devchix audience, maybe on the mailing list.
Other background — I got a masters degree in interactive telecommunications, one of the more obscure degree titles out there but basically a course in interactivity, programming and design. I’m especially interested in the development process of projects and would love to learn more about companies who focus on that. I’m thrilled to be on this blog and am looking forward to being part of an active community of female developers, colleagues, and possibly collaborators.
When I’m not doing this stuff, I’m running (training for the Chicago Marathon — 10/22/06!), doing yoga, knitting, writing on the walls and in notebooks, watching football, exploring Chicago, and reading avidly (novels, trashy magazines, software manuals, you name it). I hang out with good friends and my two puffy cats, Flash and Zak.

My name is Liz, and I’m a Perl Gerl. I live in Santa Barbara, CA with my family and work for ValueClick Media. When I can manage the drive, I like to attend Thousand Oaks Perl Mongers in Westlake Village and LA Perl Mongers in the heart of the Sunset Strip. Previously I lived in Chicago, IL, and am an emerita of Chicago Perl Mongers.
Besides hacking Perl, I like to surf the waves and the net, cook and bake, knit and read.
